MNJTF Troops Eliminate 9 Terrorists, Recover Arms, 263 Boko Haram terrorists surrender

In a significant stride towards regional stability, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has successfully neutralised nine terrorists and seized a considerable cache of arms and ammunition during Operation Lake Sanity 2.
The operation, conducted in Sector 3 Nigeria on July 17 and 18, 2024, underscores MNJTF’s ongoing commitment to eradicating insurgency in the Lake Chad Basin region.
Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief Military Public Information Officer at MNJTF Headquarters in N’djamena, Chad, stated this in a press statement on Friday.
According to the statement, on July 18, troops launched an offensive in Yashinti Village, Nganzai Local Government Area (LGA), in Borno State, Nigeria.
The operation resulted in the elimination of four terrorists and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 rifle magazines, and seven rounds of 7.62mm x 39mm special ammunition.
In separate clearance operations across several locations in Nganzai LGA, including Gajiram, Marram, Tumtumari, Layinma, Kulunkiya, Gadayi Tumtumari, and Kodayi, troops neutralised another four terrorists who were attempting to disrupt agricultural activities. Additionally, a 10-year-old boy named Mustapha Bukar, who had been abducted by the terrorists, was rescued and reunited with his family. The operations also resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 30 rounds of 7.62mm and 30mm ammunition.
Further demonstrating their tactical prowess, MNJTF troops conducted a night ambush at a known terrorist crossing point in Kukawa LGA. This led to the elimination of one more terrorist, with troops recovering an AK-47 rifle, six magazines, and 118 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
These successful operations not only weaken the insurgents’ operational capabilities but also bolster the safety and confidence of local communities, reaffirming MNJTF’s dedication to restoring peace and stability in the region.
The statement stated that as Operation Lake Sanity 2 advances, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has recorded a significant surrender of 263 Boko Haram terrorists and their families in Sector 1, Cameroon, between July 10 and 17, 2024.
“The surrender began on July 11 when five terrorists turned themselves in to MNJTF troops in Wulgo, located on the Nigeria-Cameroon border. Preliminary reports indicate these individuals originated from Tumbuma and Kutumgulla in Marte LGA, Nigeria. On the same day, Malum Kori Bukar, a 50-year-old, escaped from the Jibilaram hideout and surrendered to the troops.
The statement further said that 19 terrorists also surrendered in Madaya, Extreme North Cameroon, and another 11 in Wulgo from the Tumbuma hideout in two waves.
“The trend continued with 64 individuals surrendering in Bonderi, Cameroon, on July 12, including six adult males, 20 women, and 38 children. On July 13, 27 terrorists surrendered, followed by another 102 individuals on July 15 in Bonderi, comprising 20 adult men, 40 women, and 42 children. On July 16, two more terrorists surrendered, and on July 17, a total of 48 terrorists and their families surrendered, including ten adult males, 15 females, and 23 children.
According to preliminary investigations, all surrendered individuals belong to Nigerian communities and were subsequently handed over to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai for further action.
