NFIU Backs Nigerian Student Ahead of GIABA Regional Speech Contest
The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, has received Miss Amra Onize Salihu, a 500-level Law student of the University of Abuja, ahead of her participation in the 9th GIABA Inter-University Speech Contest.
Miss Salihu will represent Nigeria at the regional competition in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where students from across West Africa will discuss the impact of Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures on regional economies.
During the meeting, Bakari commended the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) for promoting awareness of anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing issues among young people.
She encouraged the student to approach the competition with confidence, excellence and a strong sense of national pride as she represents Nigeria on the regional stage.
The NFIU described Miss Salihu as a distinguished debater and advocate who recently emerged as the National Champion of the 2026 Amnesty International Intervarsity Debate Competition, defeating contestants from 24 universities across the country.
According to the agency, her achievement reflects exceptional legal reasoning, public speaking, advocacy and leadership skills.
The NFIU reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people to promote transparency, accountability, financial integrity and good governance across Africa, while wishing Miss Salihu success at the regional competition in Sierra Leone.
