Nigeria Hosts African Union Experts Training on Peace, Security, Counterterrorism
Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting regional peace and security through strategic partnerships as the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), commenced an induction and orientation programme for members of the Committee of Experts of the African Union Peace and Security Council.
The training programme is designed to provide participants with strategic knowledge and operational insights required to effectively support the African Union Peace and Security Council in addressing emerging security challenges across the continent.
According to organisers, the initiative serves as a platform for experts to strengthen their understanding of the Council’s mandate, operational structures and key mechanisms for conflict prevention, peacebuilding and counterterrorism collaboration among African Union member states.
The programme also focuses on enhancing institutional capacity and improving cooperation in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and other threats confronting Africa’s security landscape.
Officials noted that the engagement reflects Nigeria’s continued role in advancing regional security initiatives and supporting collective African efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
The training is expected to further strengthen coordination among member states and enhance the effectiveness of the African Union’s response to evolving security threats across the continent.
