Nigeria, Jordan Sign Defence Cooperation Agreement on Intelligence Sharing

The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to strengthen defence cooperation and intelligence sharing.

The agreement was concluded in Amman following a meeting with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity.

According to Matawalle, the MoU aims to enhance collaboration between both countries in addressing emerging security threats, particularly those that are complex, asymmetric, and cross-border in nature.

He explained that the agreement reflects the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to a security strategy focused on strengthening partnerships and improving national stability through a “bottoms-up approach.”

The Minister noted that the partnership with Jordan is expected to support Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to improve peace, security, and intelligence coordination in tackling terrorism and other transnational crimes.

He added that the agreement underscores Nigeria’s determination to deepen international military cooperation as part of broader efforts to safeguard national security.
