Nigeria, Russia Move to Deepen Bilateral Ties Ahead of Joint Commission Session
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and strategic cooperation with the Russian Federation, following a high-level engagement between the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, and Russia’s Trade Commissioner to Nigeria, Max I. Petrov.
The meeting, held at the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning in Abuja, focused on advancing bilateral relations ahead of the 5th Session of the Nigeria–Russia Joint Commission.
Discussions centred on expanding cooperation across critical sectors, including energy, agriculture, technology, and infrastructure, with both parties exploring new opportunities to boost trade and investment flows between Nigeria and Russia.
Dr. Uzoka-Anite emphasised that the engagement aligns with Nigeria’s broader economic agenda, particularly the implementation of the National Development Plan 2026–2030 and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration.
She noted that the Federal Government remains committed to fostering strategic international partnerships capable of driving sustainable growth, strengthening private sector participation, and delivering impactful, bankable projects for the benefit of Nigerians.
The Minister further reiterated Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with global partners in mutually beneficial ventures that support economic diversification and long-term national development.
The upcoming Joint Commission session is expected to build on existing diplomatic and economic ties, while setting a clear framework for enhanced cooperation between both countries in key development areas.
