Nigerian Army Commences 2024 Personnel Conversion Exercise

The Nigerian Army initiated its annual conversion exercise on Monday for 528 personnel, comprising Short Service and Direct Short Service officers, at the opening ceremony held in Jos.

Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, President of the Conversion Board and General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, emphasized the significance of the exercise in officers’ career progression. He stated, “This is a periodic exercise aimed at converting from short service and direct short service combatant to Regular Commission and Direct Regular Commission, respectively.”

Scheduled from May 6 to May 19, the exercise involves assessments in weapon handling, medical fitness, drills, and oral interviews, among other criteria. Abubakar expressed gratitude to Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, for authorizing the exercise.

Warning against malpractices, Abubakar cautioned participants against cheating, bribery, and the use of enhancement drugs, urging them to maintain integrity. He also urged vigilance, advising candidates to report any suspicious activities promptly for necessary action.
