Nigerian Army Rescues 33 Abducted Passengers in Zamfara
Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Brigade, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tsafe, have successfully rescued 33 passengers abducted by terrorists along the Magazu axis of Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
The rescue operation was carried out at about 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, following credible intelligence on the abduction of passengers travelling through the area.
According to military sources, troops swiftly mobilised to the location and made contact with the terrorists, who were moving the victims towards an undisclosed destination.
The soldiers engaged the terrorists with effective firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon the abducted passengers and flee into the surrounding bushes.
The 33 victims were subsequently rescued and secured by the troops for further necessary action. The soldiers also commenced an extensive search of the surrounding area while pursuing the fleeing terrorists.
The Nigerian Army confirmed that no soldier was killed or injured during the operation, describing the successful rescue as another demonstration of the troops’ commitment to protecting civilians and disrupting terrorist activities in Zamfara State.
The operation further highlights the sustained efforts of the Nigerian Army to safeguard vulnerable routes, rescue abducted persons and restore confidence among communities and commuters affected by terrorist activities.
Security forces are expected to intensify the pursuit of the fleeing attackers as operations continue to prevent further attacks and enhance the safety of residents and travellers across the affected areas.
