Operation Clean Sweep: Nigerian Forces Decimate IPOB Stronghold, Neutralize Commander Ojoto
In a decisive blow to insurgent activities, Nigerian security forces have successfully executed a joint operation, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep, targeting the notorious Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and their armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The operation, which spanned the contentious border regions of Orsu and Ihiala Local Government Areas in Imo and Anambra States, resulted in the elimination of a high-profile militant commander known by the alias.
The combined might of the Nigerian Army, alongside the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, descended upon the general areas of Udda, Ihiteukwa, and Orsumoghu.
These locales, previously exploited as sanctuaries by IPOB and ESN members, became the stage for a fierce confrontation.
The insurgents, entrenched in their positions, unleashed a barrage of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and booby traps in a desperate attempt to thwart the advancing troops.
Undeterred, the Nigerian forces showcased their tactical prowess, overcoming the guerrilla tactics with superior firepower.
The operation culminated in the neutralization of the infamous IPOB/ESN Ihiteukwa camp commander, Tochukwu, and two of his cohorts.
The aftermath saw the recovery of an arsenal of firearms, communication gadgets, narcotics, and various personal items belonging to the insurgents.
Notably, the troops secured 2 unexploded IEDs, 6 detonated IEDs, and materials used for bomb-making, all of which were safely dismantled and destroyed.
This strategic victory has significantly disrupted the operational networks of the terrorist factions in the region, restoring a measure of peace and security to the beleaguered communities.
In a related development, another contingent of Nigerian troops, engaged in counter-terrorism efforts in Cross River State, encountered and engaged a cadre of suspected kidnappers in the remote community of Akparanbong, within the Ikom Local Government Area.
The ensuing gunfight resulted in the kidnappers abandoning their stronghold, leaving behind 2 AK 47 Rifles, 6 Magazines, assorted ammunition, and 3 mobile phones, all of which were confiscated by the vigilant troops.
These successful operations underscore the relentless commitment of Nigeria’s security forces to eradicate the threats posed by insurgents and criminal elements, thereby safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and the well-being of its citizens.
