Operation FANSAN YAMMA Rescues Six Kidnap Victims, Recovers ₦800,000 in Katsina

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims and recovered ₦800,000 allegedly taken from them by terrorists in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The troops also engaged terrorists in a separate operation in Kankara Local Government Area, forcing them to flee and recovering a motorcycle abandoned by the fleeing elements.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, troops of Sector 2 were conducting a fighting patrol on 22 August 2026 when they responded to a distress call reporting that terrorists had intercepted a vehicle and abducted six occupants along the Dandume–Sheme Road.

The troops swiftly mobilised to the area and engaged the terrorists, whose position was overwhelmed by the military’s superior firepower. The attackers were forced to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding bushes.

The six victims were subsequently rescued unharmed, while troops recovered ₦800,000 allegedly taken from them by the terrorists.

The recovered funds and the victims’ vehicle were later handed back to them in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer, Dandume.

In a related operation on 21 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 encountered suspected terrorists along the Maraban Kankara axis in Kankara Local Government Area.

The troops engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bushes. They were pursued, while a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of one motorcycle reportedly abandoned by the fleeing elements.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA said it would continue to sustain aggressive patrols, offensive operations and rapid-response activities aimed at denying terrorists freedom of action and protecting lives and property across the North-West.

The Joint Task Force commended members of the public for their continued support and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies to strengthen ongoing operations and enhance the safety of communities across the region.
