Operation FANSAN YAMMA Troops Engage Terrorists Along Birnin Magaji–Zurmi Road

Troops of Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, attached to the 1 Brigade Quick Reaction Force, have engaged suspected terrorists along the Birnin Magaji–Zurmi road in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The encounter occurred at about 5:00 p.m. on August 7, 2026, as the troops were returning from an operation to support the scanning and possible neutralisation of suspected improvised explosive devices (IEDs reportedly planted by terrorists along the K/Namoda–Zurmi axis.

According to military sources, the troops made contact with the terrorists at Birnin Tsaba Village and immediately engaged them, forcing the attackers to withdraw in disarray through the community and into the surrounding bushes.

Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered two motorcycles, a camouflage jungle hat, a Baofeng handheld radio and an MP3 player.

The recovery of the communication equipment and other items is expected to provide useful leads for ongoing intelligence and security operations in the area.

The latest operation highlights the continued efforts of troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to disrupt terrorist activities, secure major routes and protect communities across Nigeria’s North-West.

The military has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive and intelligence-led operations against terrorists and other criminal elements while ensuring the safety of residents and road users across the region.
