Operation FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Foil Terrorist Attack, Recover AK-47 in Kaduna
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted a suspected terrorist movement, recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition, and arrested a suspected criminal in separate operations in Kaduna State.
The operations, conducted between September 23 and 24, 2026, were aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and preventing criminal elements from using communities as safe havens.
On September 23, troops of Sector 1, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of suspected terrorists through the bushes of Rijana in Kachia Local Government Area, swiftly mobilised to the area and laid an ambush.
The troops engaged the suspects upon sighting them and subsequently conducted a follow-up search of the area, recovering an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 13 rounds of ammunition, a magazine carrier and a military jungle hat, among other items.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops conducted a clearance operation at Awom village, also in Kachia LGA, to deny terrorists and other criminal elements a safe haven.
During the operation, the troops arrested a suspected criminal identified as Jacob, who was reportedly found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and seven rounds of ammunition.
The suspect is currently in military custody for further investigation.
The Theatre Command commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism and prompt response, reaffirming its commitment to sustained offensive and clearance operations to disrupt terrorist activities, restrict criminal movements and protect communities within the Joint Operations Area.
The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, on September 26, 2026.
