Peter Obi Calls for Tinubu’s Resignation Over Governance Concerns
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign, citing what he described as a failure of governance amid mounting economic and security challenges in the country.
Obi made the call in a statement posted on his X account on Monday, where he expressed concern over the state of the economy, rising insecurity and the declining living conditions of many Nigerians.
According to the former Anambra State governor, the current situation in the country reflects a need for greater accountability in public office and responsive leadership.
Obi said his position was informed by recent developments in the United Kingdom, referencing discussions surrounding the political accountability of British leaders. He argued that public officials should be willing to take responsibility when government policies fail to meet the expectations of citizens.
The former presidential candidate maintained that Nigeria is facing significant challenges that require urgent and effective leadership, stressing that the welfare and security of citizens should remain the primary focus of government.
His remarks add to ongoing debates over the country’s economic reforms, security situation and overall governance, with opposition figures and government supporters continuing to offer differing assessments of the administration’s performance.
The Presidency has yet to issue an official response to Obi’s latest comments.
