Resume work immediately —Labour orders workers

The Organised Labour has ordered all affiliated unions to return to work on Thursday after the indefinite strike that began on Tuesday, November 14 was suspended yesterday night.

The strike was put on hold as a result of the National Security Advisor, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, mediating the situation and apprehending some of the individuals responsible for the November 1 brutalization of Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, in Owerri, the capital of Imo state.

Comrades Emmanuel Ugbaja, the general secretary of the NLC, and Nuhu Toro, the secretary general of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) signed a statement announcing the suspension of the indefinite strike.

In order to address the upsetting kidnapping and brutalization of Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the NLC, and others, the government had complied with the requests made by organised labour.

The statement read: “Sequel to the emergency joint National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the NLC and TUC today, the 15th day of November, 2023 in which a thorough review of the offers presented by the federal government through the National Security Adviser during its earlier meeting with the leadership of both centers was made, a resolution was reached to suspend the ongoing nationwide strike, which commenced on the 14th November, 2023.
