Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, on Friday attended the 27th Democracy Day Special Jumu’ah Prayer in Abuja as part of activities commemorating this year’s Democracy Day celebration.

The prayer session drew government officials, Islamic clerics, religious leaders, and worshippers who gathered to offer prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity, stability, and continued democratic development.

During the programme, Islamic scholars highlighted the need for good governance, justice, national cohesion, and collective responsibility in strengthening and sustaining the country’s democratic institutions. They urged leaders and citizens alike to remain committed to the principles that promote national progress and peaceful coexistence.

Special prayers were offered for the nation’s leaders, security agencies, and citizens, seeking divine guidance, wisdom, and strength in addressing the country’s challenges and advancing development across all sectors.

The clerics also called for continued support for efforts aimed at promoting peace, security, and socio-economic growth, stressing the importance of unity and cooperation in building a stronger nation.

The special Jumu’ah prayer forms part of activities organized to mark 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance in Nigeria. The commemoration provides an opportunity to reflect on the country’s democratic journey, celebrate achievements recorded over the years, and renew commitment to the ideals of democracy, good governance, and national development.
