Shettima Flags Off Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme for 50,000 Farmers
Vice President Kashim Shettima has flagged off the distribution of farm inputs under the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme, a major Federal Government initiative aimed at enhancing food security and increasing agricultural productivity across Nigeria.
The programme, implemented by the National Agricultural Development Fund, is a key component of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is designed to support smallholder farmers nationwide.
Under the initiative, 50,000 farmers are expected to benefit from a 75 per cent subsidy on fertiliser, with particular focus on the cultivation of maize, rice, cassava, and soybeans.
The programme centres on the distribution of locally produced NPK fertiliser that is traceable and clearly marked “Not For Sale” to prevent diversion and ensure that the products reach intended beneficiaries.
According to the organisers, each geopolitical zone will benefit from the scheme, with 20,160 smallholder farmers receiving support. A total of 80,640 bags of fertiliser will be distributed, translating to four bags for each beneficiary farmer.
Representing the Vice President at the flag-off ceremony, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said the programme underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring the timely delivery of agricultural inputs and strengthening collaboration with state governments.
He noted that the initiative is also integrated into broader agricultural value-chain development efforts aimed at increasing productivity, improving farmers’ incomes, and supporting national food sufficiency.
The programme is being implemented with the support of indigenous fertiliser manufacturers, agro-processors, and agricultural marketers, reflecting a coordinated approach to strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
Officials expressed confidence that the intervention will boost crop yields, improve food production, and contribute significantly to the country’s drive for sustainable food security and economic growth.
