Tinubu Commissions High-Capacity CNG Booster Station in Abuja
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commissioned a High-Capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Daughter Booster Station in Jahi, Abuja, describing the project as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner, more affordable and sustainable energy sources.
The President, represented by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, said the facility aligns with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas Initiative, which is designed to promote industrialisation, enhance energy security and diversify the nation’s economy.
The CNG station was developed by Rolling Energy Limited in partnership with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), a directorate under the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
The Abuja facility is one of four MDGIF-backed projects commissioned across the country. Other projects are being executed by IBILE Oil and Gas and Portland Energy in Ojota, Lagos, as well as FEMADEC Energy at the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
Speaking at the event, the Authority Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, Rabiu Umar, represented by Abuja Regional Coordinator, Maijidda Abdulkadir, reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to ensuring safety, compliance and effective regulation within Nigeria’s expanding gas sector.
The Executive Director of MDGIF, Oluwole Adama, represented by the Fund’s Director of Project Management, Hussaini Basaka, said the fund would continue to support projects that enhance energy access, stimulate economic growth and drive national development.
Chairman of Rolling Energy Limited, Mubarak Umar Dambata, disclosed that the station has a sales capacity of 1,000 Standard Cubic Metres (SCM) of gas per hour and can serve more than 1,000 CNG-powered vehicles and 100 trucks daily.
According to him, the facility will significantly improve gas distribution and availability in Abuja and surrounding communities.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicles, Ismaeel Ahmed, said the project reflects the Tinubu administration’s long-term commitment to reducing dependence on conventional fuels through the adoption of cleaner and more sustainable energy alternatives.
The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, noted that the Federal Government had commissioned 25 projects nationwide as part of activities marking the third anniversary of the Tinubu administration, with several focused on clean energy and gas infrastructure development.
