Tinubu Mourns Retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, Vows No Concessions to Terrorists
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed shock and sadness over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the late military officer as a distinguished patriot who served the nation with dedication before his retirement.
According to the statement, General Abubakar was reportedly travelling to his hometown when he was abducted by terrorists. He later died while in captivity.
President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the Government of Katsina State, and the Nigerian Armed Forces over what he described as a painful loss.
The President also expressed concern for the late general’s wife, who remains in the custody of the kidnappers, and prayed for her safe release.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity, Tinubu declared that the Federal Government would not yield to demands by terrorists for the release of detained criminal elements in exchange for hostages.
He reiterated his Democracy Day message, warning bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terrorism to surrender or face the full force of the law.
“Bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terror should now surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. These windows of surrender will not remain open forever, and no mercy will be shown to those who trade in the blood of Nigerians,” the President stated.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain united in the fight against insecurity, expressing confidence that the nation would ultimately defeat terrorism and criminality.
He further described the death of General Abubakar as a defining moment in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against terrorism, stressing that terrorists must be treated as enemies of the state and confronted decisively.
The President assured citizens that his administration remains committed to restoring peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that those responsible for acts of terror are brought to justice.
General Abubakar’s death has drawn widespread condolences from government officials, security agencies and citizens, with many paying tribute to his years of service to the nation and sacrifice in the defence of Nigeria.
