Troops of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion, operating under Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an attempted infiltration by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Borno State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, when troops deployed at Checkpoint 4, Alpha Company, observed suspected terrorists crawling towards their defensive position from the Gulumba Gana axis.

The troops immediately responded with gunfire, forcing the terrorists to retreat from the area.

At about 6:00 a.m., the troops conducted an exploitation operation along the suspected infiltration route and recovered four AK-47 rifles as well as the bodies of four terrorists killed during the encounter.

Bloodstains were also reportedly observed along the withdrawal route, indicating that some of the fleeing terrorists may have sustained injuries during the engagement.

There were no casualties among the troops, while the soldiers returned to their base at about 6:53 a.m. after completing the operation.

The military said the general security situation in the area remained calm but unpredictable, while troops maintained a satisfactory level of morale and combat readiness.

The successful operation highlights the continued vigilance of troops deployed under Operation Hadin Kai to detect and prevent terrorist infiltration and protect communities across Borno State.
