Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across the North-West, neutralising two terrorists, rescuing a kidnapped victim, arresting eight suspected collaborators and recovering 110 rustled cattle during coordinated operations conducted between June 27 and 28, 2026.

According to the task force, troops recorded the successes during a series of intelligence-led operations across Kaduna and Zamfara states, aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and dismantling criminal networks.

On June 27, a combined team of Sector 1 troops and members of the Vigilante Group engaged terrorists transporting kidnapped victims on motorcycles during a fighting patrol in Giwa and Kaduna North Local Government Areas of Kaduna State. Following a gun battle, the terrorists abandoned two motorcycles and fled into nearby bushes. One kidnapped victim was rescued alive, while another victim was found dead after allegedly being killed by the terrorists.

Later the same day, troops responded to a terrorist attack on Dariya Village in Giwa Local Government Area, where one civilian was killed and three others injured before security personnel arrived. The troops pursued the fleeing terrorists, intercepted them on motorcycles and engaged them in a firefight, killing two of the suspects.

Items recovered from the operation included one motorcycle, ammunition, charms and other personal belongings.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 arrested two suspects in Magami, Gusau Local Government Area, who are believed to have been providing medical support to terrorist groups operating in the area.

Similarly, troops of Sector 1 arrested six other suspects during a fighting patrol around Polewire Village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State after they were found under suspicious circumstances following a clash with fleeing terrorists. The suspects are currently undergoing investigation.

On June 28, troops, working with members of the Vigilante Group, foiled a cattle rustling operation in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Acting on intelligence, the security team laid an ambush along the suspected escape route of the rustlers at Ungwan Gora bush, forcing the criminals to abandon 110 rustled cattle and flee.

The recovered livestock were later handed over to their rightful owners.

The Joint Task Force said it remains committed to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements across the North-West, while urging residents to continue providing credible and timely intelligence to support ongoing security efforts.
