Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have repelled a night attack launched by suspected ISWAP terrorists on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori under Sector 2, inflicting heavy losses on the insurgents.

According to military authorities, the attack occurred late on Saturday, 9 May 2026, and continued into the early hours of Sunday, 10 May 2026.

The terrorists were said to have advanced from the Mandunari axis around midnight but were detected early by an ambush team positioned by the troops.

Military sources disclosed that soldiers immediately launched a coordinated spoiling attack, trapping the insurgents in what was described as a devastating killing zone.

The military confirmed that no part of the camp was breached and no equipment was lost during the encounter.

Air support from the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI and the Nigerian Army Aviation was also deployed in a coordinated air-land operation that targeted retreating insurgents, further weakening the attackers.

Following the confrontation, troops conducted exploitation operations around the area and reportedly discovered extensive blood trails, body parts, and signs of heavy casualties among the terrorists.

Recovered items included one General Purpose Machine Gun, two PKT machine guns, five AK-47 rifles, belts of assorted ammunition, and other personal belongings abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.

The military stated that wounded soldiers from the operation are stable and currently receiving medical attention, while follow-up operations are ongoing to track escaping terrorists and consolidate gains in the area.

Operation HADIN KAI said the failed assault further demonstrates the operational dominance of troops across the North-East theatre and the inability of terrorist groups to overrun well-fortified military positions.

The statement was signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI.
