Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded fresh operational successes in Katsina and Zamfara states, repelling terrorist attacks, rescuing a kidnapped district head and recovering weapons and other items during separate operations.

The operations, conducted on July 2, 2026, were part of ongoing efforts to sustain pressure on terrorist groups and enhance security across the North-West.

In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol engaged terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the criminals opened fire on the advancing troops. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee.

Following the encounter, troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working alongside other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded to a terrorist attack and neutralised one of the assailants during a gun battle.

Also in Malumfashi Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of an attack on Farin Hawa Village, where armed terrorists on motorcycles abducted the District Head, Mubarak Sharin.

The troops pursued the attackers, engaged them in a firefight, neutralised one terrorist and successfully rescued the kidnapped district head.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled a terrorist attack on their location at Dauran in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

The soldiers, supported by reinforcement teams, forced the attackers to retreat and recovered one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a hydration pack.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the courage and professionalism of its personnel, other security agencies and local collaborators involved in the operations.

The Joint Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups while working closely with communities to protect lives and property across the North-West.
