Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded further operational successes in Zamfara State, rescuing civilians from terrorist attacks, foiling attempted abductions and safely neutralising an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted along a major road.

In the first operation on August 17, 2026, troops of Sector 2 responded to an abduction incident along the Gurusu–Anka Road in Zamfara State. The troops immediately launched a pursuit, forcing the terrorists to abandon their captives and flee into the surrounding area.

Seven victims, comprising four women and three children, were rescued unharmed and taken to safety.

In a separate incident in Tsafe Local Government Area, troops responded to reports of terrorists attempting to abduct motorists around Magazu Village. The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon their victims and retreat into the bushes.

The rescued victims, some of whom sustained gunshot injuries during the attack, were promptly evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

Earlier the same day, troops of Sector 2 also responded to the discovery of a terrorist-planted IED along the Gurusu–Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum LGA.

The area was immediately secured to protect civilians and troops, while personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team successfully neutralised the device, preventing possible casualties and disruption to road users.

The Theatre Command said the operations demonstrate the vigilance, rapid response and determination of troops to protect civilians, secure communities and keep major routes across Zamfara State safe from terrorist activities.

It reaffirmed that troops will continue to sustain pressure on terrorist elements across the Joint Operations Area and deny them freedom of action.

The public was also urged to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
