Troops Rescue Kidnap Victims, Recover Rustled Cattle in Kebbi
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued kidnapped victims and recovered rustled cattle following attacks by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on communities in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation followed intelligence reports of attacks on Tuwo, Wayewaye and Kestu villages, prompting troops of 1 Battalion, 8 Division, Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, to launch a fighting patrol to the affected communities on October 27, 2026.
The patrol was aimed at reassuring residents, restoring confidence among affected communities and preventing further activities by the suspected terrorists.
On arrival, the troops discovered that some residents had fled their homes for safety, while several houses had been set ablaze. An unconfirmed number of cattle were also reportedly rustled during the attacks.
According to the operational report, the soldiers made contact with the suspected terrorists as they advanced into the affected areas. However, the assailants fled upon sighting the advancing troops, unable to withstand their superior firepower.
During the operation, the troops rescued some kidnapped victims and recovered part of the rustled cattle, which were immediately handed over to members of the affected communities.
The Army said patrols were ongoing across Koko communities in Shanga Local Government Area to prevent further attacks, restrict the movement of terrorists and ensure the safety of residents.
The operation underscores the continued efforts of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect vulnerable communities, rescue kidnapped persons and disrupt the activities of terrorist groups across the North-West.
