Uba Sani Signs Law Establishing College of Post-Basic Nursing Sciences in Rigasa
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has signed into law an executive bill establishing the Kaduna State College of Post-Basic Nursing Sciences in Rigasa to strengthen specialist nursing education and improve healthcare delivery across the state.
The governor said the new institution represents a strategic investment in developing skilled healthcare professionals to meet the growing demand for specialised nursing services.
Located in Rigasa, the college will offer training in midwifery, mental health, perioperative, paediatric, emergency, intensive care and public health nursing, as well as nursing education and administration.
According to the governor, the institution’s programmes will comply with the accreditation requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and other relevant professional bodies.
He added that the college would also provide a platform for clinical research, continuous professional development and partnerships with teaching hospitals, universities and accredited healthcare institutions.
Sani said the initiative would complement the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure, including the upgrading of 255 primary healthcare centres, the rehabilitation of 16 general hospitals and sustained investment in recruiting and developing healthcare personnel.
He noted that the effectiveness of healthcare facilities depended largely on the expertise, competence and dedication of the professionals working in them.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the new institution becomes fully operational and contributes to improving healthcare standards and health outcomes across Kaduna State.
He said the ultimate goal was to build a healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of residents while earning their trust through quality, compassionate and accessible services.
