A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Faruk Adamu Aliyu, has weighed in on the distribution of ministerial appointments in Nigeria, highlighting differences in regional representation across administrations.

Aliyu noted that during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, there were seven ministers, yet none of the ministers of state came from the North-West region. He described this as a deliberate decision taken by the former president based on his governance approach.
Drawing a comparison with the current administration, Aliyu observed that under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ondo State currently has three ministers in government, reflecting a different pattern in regional appointments.
He further explained that political alliances in Nigeria are often fluid, with individuals sometimes serving in governments led by parties other than their own. According to him, such cross-party participation is not unusual but rather part of the country’s political history.
Aliyu also emphasized that the APC maintains clear boundaries between its internal structures and individuals who are not formally part of the party, noting that official decisions are made strictly within recognized party organs and leadership.
He stressed the importance of internal party governance, adding that structured decision-making processes help preserve the integrity and cohesion of the party.
On the broader issue of appointments, Aliyu stated that factors such as regional balance, competence, and experience often influence the composition of ministerial teams, rather than party loyalty alone.
He concluded that understanding these historical and political dynamics is essential in interpreting current government appointments and the evolving nature of governance in Nigeria.
