Emerging and mid-career artists in Nigeria and Ghana have a rare opportunity to supercharge their careers with the launch of the inaugural Myma Art Prize. The prestigious new award promises to be a game-changer for visual artists across West Africa, offering a $5,000 cash prize, a three-month residency in Benin City, and access to some of the most influential collectors, curators, and development mentors in the art world.

Applications are now open and will close on August 31, 2025. Interested artists are encouraged to apply via mymaartprize.com.

Beyond the financial reward, the Myma Art Prize offers an immersive artist development program, capped by a group exhibition that will place selected artists in direct dialogue with key figures in the international art market.

“This is more than a prize — it’s a platform for artistic growth and visibility,” said the organisers in a statement. “Our mission is to spotlight the most promising talents from Nigeria and Ghana and provide them with the tools, resources, and networks to elevate their careers.”

The three-month residency will take place at a dedicated art hub in Benin City, Nigeria, a city renowned for its rich cultural heritage and contemporary art momentum. Selected artists will receive studio space, mentorship, and curatorial support as part of the package.

The prize is open exclusively to early and mid-career artists who are citizens or residents of Nigeria and Ghana. Mediums accepted include painting, sculpture, photography, installation, performance, digital, and interdisciplinary art.

With the backing of a global advisory team and partnerships with notable art institutions, the Myma Art Prize is poised to become a leading light for contemporary African art.
