Army Chief Visits Command Engineering Depot, Urges Technological Innovation in Support of Ongoing Operations
On Monday, May 27, 2024, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, visited the Command Central Engineering Depot (CED) of the Nigerian Army in Kaduna. During his maiden visit, General Lagbaja commended the personnel for their technological innovation and ingenuity in rebuilding, renovating, and repairing damaged combat platforms recovered from various formations and units across the country.
Briefed by the Commander of the Depot, Major General Babatunde Alaya, General Lagbaja was informed about the engineering efforts that have been pivotal in reboring and refitting damaged combat vehicles. He emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts to support frontline troops through swift engineering interventions.
General Lagbaja highlighted that the Command Engineering Depot is crucial to his Command Philosophy, which focuses on transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment. He praised the Commander, officers, soldiers, and civilian staff of the Depot for their dedication and alignment with this vision.
He also lauded the efforts of previous leadership in revitalizing the formerly comatose Central Engineering Depot, transforming it into a viable and innovative Command Engineering Depot.
During his visit, General Lagbaja inspected various production sections of the Depot and interacted with the personnel. He was accompanied by Major General John Ochai, Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General Lander Saraso, GOC 2 Division, and other Principal Staff Officers from the Nigerian Army.
The visit underscored the importance of technological innovation and engineering support in maintaining the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army.
