In a strategic move to enhance national security through comprehensive understanding, the Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has launched an Environmental Study Tour (EST) scheduled to take place from March 11 to 14, 2024, in Benue and Osun States. The theme guiding the tour is “Protection of Solid Minerals Sector for Enhanced National Security.”
As an integral part of the College’s curriculum, this EST forms a pivotal educational component aimed at providing participants with firsthand insights into the vital role played by selected establishments and organisations in achieving national security and defense objectives.
Divided into two teams, the participants, comprising Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels, and equivalents from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, will embark on an exploration of North Central Benue State (Team 1) and South West Osun State (Team 2). Major General Ishaya Maina, the Commandant of AWCN, and Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, will lead the respective teams.
The tour itinerary includes visits to key establishments such as the Federal Mining, State Police Command Headquarters, Ministry of Lands, Survey, and Solid Minerals, as well as military installations. This comprehensive exploration aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of the critical role played by the solid minerals sector in national security and defense strategies.
The statement, signed by Major Hashimu Sa’ad Abdullahi, the College Public Relations Officer said that the entourage, comprising Directors, Faculty members, and Research Fellows, anticipates an enriching experience for the 75 participants of AWCN Course 8/2024. Among them, 65 represent the Nigerian Army, while two participants each hail from the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Air Force. Additionally, the tour includes six participants from allied nations, representing Congo Brazzaville, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Eswatini, Togo, and two from Cameroon.
