As General Lagbaja Fetes with Troops in Sokoto

In a show of solidarity and appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice of Nigerian Army troops, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja reassured them of the nation’s unwavering support in the ongoing fight against adversaries.

The COAS conveyed this commitment during a Christmas Luncheon with frontline troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Hadarin Daji, held at Giginya Barracks in Sokoto.

Acknowledging the troops’ relentless efforts in addressing security challenges across the country, General Lagbaja commended their resilience and promised enhanced operational capabilities through the provision of combat enablers and logistical support.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Maj Gen Godwin Mutkut, expressed gratitude to the COAS during the Christmas Luncheon. “Your leadership and initiatives have had constructive impact on military operations, and this must be commended.” He said as went ahead to list some of the initiatives, which includes the construction and renovation of various structures in the Division, such as accommodation facilities, a 7.5 MVA Transformer for stable electricity supply, road tarring within the Barracks, the establishment of a Battalion at Ilela, and other Forward Operating Bases. These measures, he noted, have significantly improved operational effectiveness.

Following the luncheon, General Lagbaja paid a courtesy visit to Governor Hammad Aliyu at the Sokoto State Government House. During the visit, the COAS emphasised his presence in the state is to motivate and boost the troops’ determination in the fight against terrorists and bandits. He thanked the State Government for its continuous support to the troops.

Responding, Governor Hammad Aliyu appreciated the COAS’s gesture of sharing a meal with the troops during the Christmas celebration, recognising its positive impact on troop morale. He highlighted the recent successful rescue operation conducted by the gallant troops, rescuing over 60 individuals, underscoring the importance of such efforts in fostering peace and socio-economic development in Sokoto and the broader North West region.
