Former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Nigeria, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said the time has come to give new blood a chance in the country’s politics.

He recalled that in 2018, he and Atiku Abubakar participated together in a party primary election, and again in 2023 when he ran alongside Atiku as the vice-presidential candidate.
Baba-Ahmed noted that there are young Nigerians with fresh ideas and a strong desire to reform the nation’s political system, but the rigid and highly restrictive nature of the system has continued to block their progress.
“For God’s sake, should we do the same again in 2027? There is a need to allow new blood to test their luck,” he said.
He further remarked that Atiku Abubakar has been contesting for the presidency since his own National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) days, highlighting how long the same political figures have remained dominant in Nigeria’s political landscape.
