Bayelsa Declares Work-Free Day, Shuts Markets Ahead of Tinubu’s Visit
The Bayelsa State Government has declared a work-free day and ordered the closure of markets ahead of the visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the state.
The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, who said the directive is aimed at enabling residents to fully participate in activities scheduled for the President’s one-day official visit.
According to the government, the holiday will take effect on Friday, April 10, 2026, with workers, traders, and residents encouraged to turn out en masse to welcome the President.
During the visit, Tinubu is expected to commission several key infrastructure projects, including a gas turbine project at Opolo–Elebele, a 60-kilometre dual carriageway from Onopa to the LNG axis, and a 630-metre bridge linking Angiama to Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
State officials noted that the temporary closure of markets and suspension of work are part of broader measures to ensure a smooth and successful visit, as Bayelsa prepares to host the President.
