Borno State Youth Parliament Tackles Gender-Based Violence in Schools at 4th Official Sitting

The Borno State Youth Parliament convened its 4th Official Sitting at the Borno State House of Assembly, bringing critical issues affecting young people to the forefront. The session, presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abubakar Usman, opened with a warm welcome to dignitaries, invited guests, and members of the Youth Parliament.

A central highlight of the sitting was a motion moved by Hon. Hadiza Isa of Bayo Constituency addressing the urgent need to combat gender-based violence faced by adolescent girls in secondary schools across the state. The motion received unanimous support from members, reflecting the Parliament’s commitment to protecting vulnerable students.

The motion was seconded by the Hon. Member representing Abadam Constituency, while members from Jere, Biu, and Magumeri Constituencies co-sponsored the initiative, emphasizing actionable strategies and collaborative interventions to safeguard girls in educational institutions.

The sitting also drew respected leaders and youth development partners, including:

Also in attendance were students, youth representatives, and other stakeholders from across the state, signaling strong institutional support for youth-led governance and advocacy.

The session concluded with the motion for adjournment moved by the Leader of the House, Amb. Talha Musa Muhammad. The Parliament officially adjourned and will reconvene on 20th February 2026.
