Breaking: Heavy shooting in Maiduguri as Army Repels Boko Haram Attack
Military troops are currently engaging Boko Haram in a shoot-out to prevent the military insurgents from entering the city of Maiduguri the Borno state capital.
Heavy gunshots were heard around the Jiddari-Polo area at about 6 pm, as most residents who were earlier returning homes for the break of the Ramadan fast (Iftar) fled to other areas of the metropolis believed to be safe.
“Boko Haram is attacking Jiddari-Polo area now. There is heavy shooting,” Usman Musa, a resident of the area told The Sun.
The attack by Boko Haram was the first since February 12, 2020 when the insurgents hit the area, killing about eight persons.
During this Tuesday’s attack houses were reportedly burnt while several children and women went missing.
The attackers were said to have stated Sporadic gunshots, throwing powerful explosive ordinance on the residential houses around Polo High Court in Jiddari community within the metropolis.
A source within the area told our correspondent that many residential houses were completely burnt down, however, it’s very difficult to ascertain number of casualties both on the side of the security operatives, Civilian or even the attackers but a lot of pictures persons killed suspected to be members of Boko Haram gunners seen trending on social media few minutes after the military takes control of the area.
Few minutes when the attack was lunched a massive military deployment were seen rushing to the scene with sophisticated weapons and other armament including ambulances while others were on motorcycles.
Our correspondent tried to get a reaction out of the spokesman of the Army’s Operation Hadin Kai. However, the Colonel, Ado Isa was not responding to calls.
