A formal statement issued on behalf of His Excellency, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd) CFR, has strongly rejected recent online claims linking him to alleged terrorism financiers. The publication by Sahara Reporters, based solely on the testimony of Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi (Rtd), was described as “false, unfounded, and malicious,” intended to tarnish the reputation of the former Chief of Army Staff and Nigeria’s former Ambassador to the Republic of Benin.
Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (Rtd), speaking on behalf of Buratai, emphasized that at no point in his distinguished four-decade military career has he ever been questioned, investigated, or associated with terrorism financing by any official body. “The narrative being circulated is a clear misrepresentation borne out of malice and lacks any factual or legal foundation,” the statement said.

The statement highlighted Buratai’s record of leadership in Nigeria’s fight against Boko Haram and ISWAP, noting his efforts to recover occupied territories, restore civil administration, and resettle displaced citizens. “It defies logic and conscience to suggest that the same person who led decisive actions against terrorism would in any way be associated with the very elements he spent his career confronting,” it added.
Buratai’s representatives have called on Sahara Reporters and Major General Ali-Keffi to retract the allegations and issue a public apology, warning that failure to do so could result in legal action to protect the former Chief of Army Staff’s reputation.
The statement concluded by noting that Buratai remains focused on academic engagements, policy contributions, peace advocacy, and philanthropic initiatives aimed at national development.
