The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) commitment to safeguarding the nation and its oil resources.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Defence Monitoring Team for ongoing military operations in the South South, General Musa assured that the AFN will remain steadfast in its constitutional duty.

The event, held at the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, was aimed at optimizing security efforts in the oil-producing region.

General Musa emphasized the importance of cooperation between the military and other security agencies, which has already boosted oil production.

He urged the newly inaugurated monitoring team to work closely with the Joint Task Force (JTF) South South Operation DELTA SAFE, oil companies, and stakeholders to achieve the goal set by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—to increase oil production to 2.2 million barrels per day by December.

Praising the dedication of officers and troops in securing the region, the CDS highlighted the military’s responsibility in protecting vital national infrastructure.

He also acknowledged the support of Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, in ensuring peace and stability, and expressed confidence in the team’s ability to curb oil theft and piracy.

Governor Fubara echoed the commitment to combating pipeline vandalism and sea piracy, assuring that new maritime security measures are underway to tackle emerging threats in the region.

Major General Jamiu Jimoh, Chairman of the Defence Monitoring Team, pledged the team’s full cooperation in achieving the oil production target and enhancing security in the South South region.
