Pen Resource University (PRU) is a private university located in Gombe State, Nigeria. Established with the aim of partnering with parents and inspiring students to attain the highest academic and moral standards in their upbringing, they have become a leading institution of higher learning in the region and making their way into the top ten best universities in the country.

Founded in 2022, PRU has since grown to become a fully-fledged university offering a range of undergraduate programs in various fields, including business administration, computer science, law, and mass communication. With a team of highly qualified and experienced faculty, the university is committed to providing quality education and preparing students for success in their chosen careers.

PRU’s commitment to academic excellence is evident in its state-of-the-art facilities, which include modern classrooms, fully equipped laboratories, a well-stocked library, and a robust ICT infrastructure. The university’s curriculum is also designed to ensure that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the demands of the 21st-century workplace.

But beyond academic excellence, PRU is also committed to instilling moral values in its students. The university’s vision is to produce graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright, with a deep sense of social responsibility. To achieve this goal, PRU has established a strong culture of discipline, honesty, and integrity, and encourages students to engage in community service and other forms of social outreach.

As the first private university in Gombe State, PRU has made significant contributions to the development of human capital in the region. Through its innovative teaching methods, cutting-edge research, and community engagement initiatives, the university is helping to produce a new generation of leaders who are equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

PRU’s commitment to academic excellence, moral values, and community service makes it a unique institution of higher learning in Nigeria. With the feat so far achieved by the university in just a few years of its existence, is clear that PRU is poised to continue making significant contributions to the development of Gombe State and the entire country.

Thinking ahead the university recently established a research center to promote African medicine. The center is to among other things mitigate health challenges using African medicinal plants. The center is geared towards supporting natural medicine in a bid to attract investors into the sector.

According to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university, Professor Yusuph Yahaya, apart from solving health issues, the newly established center would also provide the needed health support to the university community and help boost the well-being of the state and host community. “The research output of the center will support our natural medicine and attract investors in this area,” the VC stated during the matriculation ceremony of 334 students at the university in Gombe.

Another unique quality of PRU is the adoption of pedagogies that would sharpen self-efficacy and produce graduates with the necessary competencies and skills for survival rather than mere degree possessors. The Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Studies is also being established to support the students in developing the necessary capabilities to stand and strive on their own.

In recognition of excellence in its academic programs, PRU has been attracting high caliber and eminent scholars to its fold, Primarily as permanent staff, then to a limited extent, either as visiting/adjunct or probono staff. In all academic engagements with students and staff, PRU has made it a priority and emphasize mutual respect, allowing every person to participate equally and benefit from each other’s ideas and strengths. The university does not tolerate harassment, fighting, bullying, or any negative ego-centered behavior from either students or Staff.
