The Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, convened a maiden media parley with defense correspondents, during which he stressed the importance of critically reviewing the year-end, in order to provide clarifications on outstanding issues and enhance public understanding of both military operations and non-combat activities.

Acknowledging the media’s crucial role, General Musa appreciated their professionalism in verifying information before dissemination. He encouraged continued collaboration and highlighted the commitment to operate openly and impartially, urging the media to promptly clarify any issues.

Addressing a sensitive matter concerning a false report of his death, General Musa underlined the need for responsible journalism, expressing concern over misinformation and its potential consequences. He reaffirmed the Defense Forces’ open-door policy and called for the avoidance of conflicts arising from unverified information.

Citing the recent incident in Kaduna, the Chief of Defense Staff urges truthfulness and accountability, emphasising the importance of accepting mistakes, appealing for cooperation in the interest of accuracy and transparency.

Observing a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in the Kaduna incident, General Musa addressed the security challenges faced by the military, emphasizing the need for public sensitization. He called for understanding and appreciation of the sacrifices made by security forces for the nation’s peace.

Expressing concern about demoralising the truth, General Musa highlighted the challenges faced by troops and civilians, “I urge the public to avoid undermining those who work tirelessly for their safety. The incident in Kaduna is regrettable and a committee had been formed to investigate and advise on the way forward,” he announced.

In conclusion, General Musa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to address the media, reiterating the Defense Forces’ commitment to transparency and accountability. The floor was then opened for questions, with the assurance of accurate and informative responses.
