COAS conducts spot assessments on Army units

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja has conducted an on-the-spot assessment of Nigerian Army units namely, 231 Battalion and 331 Artillery Regiment in Abogo Largema Military Cantonment, Biu in Borno state.
This was contained in a statement by the Director, Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu.
According to the statement, Gen Lagbaja received a combined briefing from Lieutenant Colonels Aliyu Garba and Muphtau Arilesere, the respective Commanding Officers of the two units, regarding the security environment in their respective spheres of influence, the state of the units’ infrastructure, and their problems.
The Commanders emphasized the necessity of augmenting the capitation for the Cantonment MRS, given its dual role in providing support to both troops.
In response to concerns expressed by the Commanders, General Lagbaja ordered that all personnel living in the cantonment, along with their families, enroll in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) through the Cantonment Medical Reception Station (MRS) in order to receive free medical care.

In his speech to the unit’s officers and troops, the COAS thanked them for their contribution to the country in maintaining peace and security in their sphere of influence and mentioned that socioeconomic activity had resumed in the surrounding area.
General Lagbaja apprised the soldiers of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of both deceased and active military personnel, as well as their families, by distributing funds to settle the outstanding claims of the Group Life Insurance Scheme and Nigerian Army Personal Accident Assurance Scheme beneficiaries.
He gave the troops the assurance that the Nigerian Army’s formations and units are giving the problems of outdated and inadequate housing as well as deteriorating infrastructure serious consideration.
He tasked them with responding to government actions by continuing to be devoted, orderly, and faithful to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s government and constitution.
The Army Chief also spoke to the soldiers at the 135 Special Forces Battalion in Buratai and the 301 Artillery Regiment in Gombe, praising them for their bravery.
He exhorted them to maintain their resolve and keep up the pace of current operations to guarantee security.
