COAS urges troops to defend Nigeria’s integrity at WASA event
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has charged the troops of the Nigerian Army (NA) to remain diligent and continue to discharge their constitutional roles in defence of the nation’s territorial integrity.
He gave the charge during a keynote address at the end of the year 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) event, jointly organised by the Nigerian Army Combat Service Support Corps and the Nigerian Army College of Logistics and Management (NACOLM).
The event, which took place at the Command Children School playground, Barracks Yaba Lagos, on 24 February 2024, was aimed at fostering esprit de corps and celebrating the achievements of the NA in the past year.
The COAS, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Mohammed Usman, commended the efforts of the Combat Service Support Corps and NACOLM for maintaining the long NA tradition of the annual WASA.
“I njoin you to translate this synergy to effective and efficient service delivery of the Combat Service Support in the field.”
He assured them of his continuous robust support to the Combat Service Support Corps to enable it sustain and enhance its capacity and capabilities in the year 2024, owing to the significant success it has recorded in the year under review.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (NAEME), Major General Hassan Tafida, on behalf of Combat Service Support Corps and NACOLM, thank God for the event and welcomed the Special Guest of Honour and other invited guests.
He also thanked the COAS for graciously granting approval and providing the resources for the joint WASA.
He stated that the out gone training year, the Combat Service Support Corps has contributed immensely to the overall successes recorded by the NA operations in the North East, North West and other operations in the country such as Ex GOLDEN DOWN, Ex STILL WATERS among others.
“These exercises have gone a long way to curtailing the criminal activities across the country,” he said, encouraging the Combat Service Support Corps to re-double their efforts for the better logistics support to all NA activities in the year ahead.
Highlights of the event were the inter Corps and NACOLM Tug of War and the presentation of awards to deserving soldiers.
Other side attractions were the cultural display and performance by various cultural troupes to the admiration of all.
The occasion was well attended by both serving and retired senior military officers, heads of sister security agencies, soldiers and their families among several other distinguished invited guests.
