COAS Visits 401 Special Forces Brigade Makurdi, Commissions Infrastructure Project (Photos)
In a strategic move to assess and enhance the combat readiness of troops, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, paid an operational visit to the 401 Special Forces Brigade in Makurdi, Benue State, on Thursday.
According to a press statement issued by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations on Thursday, the visit is part of the COAS’s ongoing working tour of Nigerian Army (NA) formations and units across the country.
The purpose of the duty tour, according to the statement, was to evaluate the preparedness of the troops and strengthen ongoing operations aimed at effectively mitigating security challenges faced nationwide.
Addressing the troops during his visit, COAS Lagbaja expressed gratitude for their sacrificial service to the nation and commended their dedication. He urged them to continue giving their best to uphold the peace and stability of the nation.
Emphasizing the importance of discipline and professionalism in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities, the COAS underscored the critical role the troops play in ensuring national security.
As part of the visit, General Lagbaja commissioned a significant infrastructure project – a 7.5-kilometer road constructed by the Nigerian Army Engineers within the Joe Akahan Military Cantonment. This project aims to enhance the barracks’ infrastructure and contribute to the overall well-being of the military community.

In his remarks, the COAS urged the Barracks community to value and maintain the newly commissioned road. He highlighted the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing more infrastructure and social amenities to alleviate the living conditions of soldiers and their families.
The visit and commissioning underscore the Nigerian Army’s dedication to not only bolstering the operational capabilities of its forces but also improving the living standards and welfare of military personnel and their families.
