Confidential security sources have revealed that Major General M. Uba is still alive, contrary to claims by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) that they killed him during a recent attack.
The revelation comes amid growing public concern, following the circulation of a video in which ISWAP fighters boasted that they had captured and killed the senior officer. According to the security sources, the terrorists’ claims were part of a psychological warfare strategy aimed at instilling fear and undermining military morale.
Reacting to the development, Senator Ali Ndume issued a strong statement urging the Federal Government and the Nigerian Army to intensify efforts to locate the missing General. Ndume insisted that the military must recover him “dead or alive.”

“The government cannot allow terrorists to control the narrative,” Ndume stated. “If credible intelligence confirms that General Uba is alive, then every necessary step must be taken to bring him home. And if the worst has happened, we must recover his body with dignity.”
Security officials, while withholding operational details, assured the public that search-and-rescue efforts are ongoing and that the military remains determined to counter ISWAP’s propaganda.
The disappearance of General Uba has sparked national conversations about troop safety, intelligence operations, and the evolving tactics of terrorist groups in the North East.
