Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is deepening his industrial footprint across the continent as Dangote Industries Limited appoints MTN Group Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, to the board of Dangote Fertiliser Limited.

The strategic appointment is widely viewed as a signal of the company’s expansion drive and possible stock market listing in Nigeria, as Dangote continues to position his industrial assets for broader investor participation.

Mupita, who played a key role in MTN Nigeria’s landmark 2019 initial public offering and helped grow the telecom giant into one of the Nigerian Exchange’s most valuable stocks, brings strong expertise in corporate governance, finance, and large-scale business transformation—qualities closely examined by investors ahead of public offerings.

Dangote Fertiliser currently produces about three million metric tonnes of urea annually from its $2.5 billion Lagos-based facility, making it one of Africa’s largest fertiliser plants. The company is also planning further local expansion alongside the development of a new production facility in Ethiopia.

With agricultural input demand rising sharply across Africa, industry analysts say a Dangote Fertiliser IPO could rank among the continent’s most closely watched listings this year, attracting interest from global investment funds seeking exposure to manufacturing and agribusiness beyond oil and gas.

The move underscores Dangote’s broader strategy of strengthening corporate leadership as his industrial empire prepares for its next phase of growth and capital market engagement.
