Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar Resigns on Health Grounds — Tinubu Accepts Resignation
Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has officially stepped down from office with immediate effect. The resignation, submitted in a letter dated 1 December 2025, cites health reasons and was addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The President has accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for Badaru’s service. A statement issued by the Presidency indicates that a replacement will be forwarded to the Senate later this week.

Badaru, 63, is a former two-term Governor of Jigawa State (2015–2023) and was appointed Defence Minister on 21 August 2023. His departure comes at a sensitive time, as the country faces a renewed national security emergency declared by the President.
