The Founder and President of Al-Ansar Foundation, Dr Mohammad Kyari Dikwa has urged religious and traditional leaders in Nigeria to promote the cause of good governance by checking and guiding their followers to choose morality in the system of governance.

“We must embrace the idea of our religious sects playing a role in promoting good governance by checking and advising that morality be enthroned in the system”, Dr Dikwa said.
Dr Dikwa who is chairman of the conference holding in Gombe stated that “this is important because Nigerians are very religious and place their religious leaders very highly.
Therefore, it shouldn’t be a bad idea for these religious leaders to participate in governance processes by giving the best and healthiest advice while helping the government to decide where necessary”.
Speaking during a courtesy to Gombe state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, His eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammad Sa’adu Abubakar III, stated that with the current happenings in Nigeria, the country needs its political leaders to be fair, just and to do things right.
He said, “That is what we always do, we do not criticize our leaders, we advise them, we critic their activities because criticism is different from critic, so when you are doing something right, we pray for you and push you on to do more, when you are doing wrong as human-being we advise you and caution you and tell you what you are supposed to do”.
“And if the Almighty Allah makes it happen for you to do what we advise and it became good for us, we thank him and if he doesn’t, we have discharged our responsibilities very well,” the spiritual leader of Nigeria’s Muslims stated.
He further said that “we most always fear Allah in whatever we do, we most always try to do just and be right. So, we always admonish our leaders, we are partners in progress, we are not competitors, we don’t compete with political leaders.
“I want everybody to see it like that and when we make comments please take it in good faith,” the Sultan said.
He explained that the DCCN conference in Gombe is very important because an amalgamation of about 52 Muslim groups will sit down to discuss the way forward for Muslim ummah in the country and strategize how to achieve stability and development of the country.
He said, “Allah put us together as Muslims, Christians and Atheists, people who don’t even believe there is God. We most all live together peacefully, that is one of the reasons why this the conference goes round”.
On his part, Governor Yahaya commended DCCN for organizing the conference and urged the council to look at ways of addressing the issue of disunity affecting Nigeria.
