The 287-page publication, a product of his doctoral research in Military Studies at the University of Abuja, explores the concept of mandatory military service as a strategic response to Nigeria’s security challenges. The event attracted senior military officers, policymakers, and members of the press.

Dr. Abubakar described the book — affectionately referred to as the “TY Buratai Book” — as a tribute to Tukur Buratai, acknowledging his contributions to Nigeria’s military and security landscape. He also welcomed the Chairman of the occasion, Christopher Musa, Honourable Minister of Defence, and the Special Guest of Honour, Waidi Shuaibu, Chief of Army Staff.

In his address, the author noted that Nigeria continues to grapple with insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and other armed threats. Drawing lessons from countries such as Finland, Israel, South Korea, and Singapore, he argued that mandatory military service could instill patriotism, discipline, and national cohesion among Nigerian youths.

The book is structured into 12 chapters, covering themes including the Nigerian security context, benefits of compulsory service, implementation pathways, leadership in military training, youth empowerment, patriotism, and strategies for combating insecurity. It also features an introductory section and an eight-page preface, which the author encouraged readers to study carefully for context.

According to findings from a survey conducted during the research, 73.1 percent of respondents believe mandatory military service is necessary for Nigerian youths, while 79.7 percent expressed confidence that it could help address the country’s security challenges.

Published by Sprezzatura Publishing Ltd, the book incorporates perspectives from notable military leaders, adding depth to the national security discourse.

Dr. Abubakar commended the leadership of the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence, expressing confidence that with adequate manpower, technological advancement, and improved governance, Nigeria can overcome its security challenges.

He stressed that beyond military strength, good governance — characterized by accountability, transparency, participation, and rule of law — remains essential in addressing insecurity. Citing global governance indices, he noted that institutional reforms and improved service delivery are critical to national stability.

The author concluded by expressing hope that the book would spark constructive debate and contribute meaningfully to conversations on Nigeria’s security future and youth engagement in nation-building.
