Drama in Lagos: Reality Star Phyna Denied Entry into Restaurant Over Outfit
By Matthew Eloyi
Popular reality star and actress, Ijeoma Josephine Otabor, widely known as Phyna, found herself at the centre of controversy on Monday when a Lagos restaurant refused her entry over what they deemed “indecent dressing.”
The 27-year-old, dressed in a black jumpsuit that revealed her cleavage, took to her X handle to express her disappointment.
“So, I went to have dinner at one CALI RESTAURANT Abi what they call the place omo they said I’m dressed indecently and I can’t enter o,” Phyna wrote, sharing a video of herself in the outfit.
The post sparked a heated debate among her followers, with opinions sharply divided. Some defended the restaurant’s decision, emphasising the need for dress codes in business establishments.
“At the peak of status, you will find that decency is a core virtue. Nobody wants to see your private body parts in a place of business and financial negotiations,” one user commented.
Another added, “If you wear a hooker’s uniform, be prepared to be treated like one.”
However, others rallied behind Phyna, questioning the restaurant’s judgment and calling the situation an example of outdated cultural norms.
“What is wrong with the dressing? I think people are still stuck with that African mentality. It’s the restaurant’s loss. Hope they said it in a polite manner. If not, you sue,” a user countered.
Phyna, who rose to fame in 2022 after winning the 7th season of Big Brother Naija, has remained a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Known for her bold personality, this latest incident highlights the challenges public figures often face in navigating societal expectations.
While the restaurant’s specific dress code policy remains unclear, the incident has reignited conversations about personal expression, cultural norms, and the balancing act between individuality and societal rules.
