Drama in Rivers: UNIPORT Student Allegedly Fights Mother Over Domestic Dispute
Tension gripped the Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State following a disturbing altercation between a 300-level student of University of Port Harcourt, identified simply as Faith, and her mother.
The incident, which occurred in the Port Harcourt axis, reportedly escalated into a public scene that drew widespread attention after the young woman was allegedly stripped during the confrontation.
According to residents, the dispute began after the student had reportedly stayed away from home for about three days without informing her family. Her mother, said to be a petty trader who has been solely responsible for raising her children since the death of her husband, became worried and went in search of her.
Faith was eventually found around a hostel area close to the university, despite the family residence being located not far from campus. Eyewitnesses said the mother initially confronted her daughter calmly in public, questioning her whereabouts and expressing concern over her absence.
However, what began as a verbal exchange reportedly turned heated, with the student said to have felt embarrassed by the public confrontation.
Sources within the community said the situation later escalated after both returned home, where another argument broke out and degenerated into a physical fight. Neighbours intervened to separate the pair, but not before the incident had drawn a crowd and sparked reactions.
Residents expressed shock over the development, noting the mother’s long-standing efforts to provide for her children under difficult circumstances. While some condemned the student’s actions as disrespectful, others pointed to the emotional and financial strain faced by single-parent households.
The incident has since generated conversations around family pressures, communication gaps, and the challenges faced by young people and parents alike in navigating difficult situations.
