The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has praised the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for prioritizing the fight against corruption and illicit financial flows in its newly launched Country Programme for Nigeria 2026–2030.

Olukoyede delivered the goodwill message on Friday, March 27, 2026, in Abuja during the programme’s official launch, describing corruption as a “heinous threat” to national and global development. He emphasized that initiatives targeting corruption are crucial for turning the tide against the economic and social costs imposed by such crimes.
“The programme’s focus on combating corruption and illicit financial flows is particularly significant for the EFCC. Criminal networks are increasingly exploiting technology, global financial systems, and governance gaps to move illicit proceeds at alarming speed. Addressing these challenges requires coordinated national responses, strong institutions, and sustained international cooperation,” he stated.
Highlighting the long-standing collaboration between the EFCC and UNODC, Olukoyede noted that the Country Programme’s emphasis on capacity development, inter-agency coordination, and data-driven strategies aligns closely with the EFCC’s mandate and Nigeria’s broader anti-corruption objectives.
UNODC officials underscored Nigeria’s strategic importance, noting that as Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation—projected to reach 400 million people by 2050—the country holds substantial potential to drive positive regional change.
The launch attracted wide participation from key stakeholders, including representatives from the judiciary, National Judicial Institute (NJI), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Directorate of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), among others.
