FIFA Awards Super Eagles 3–0 Victory Over DR Congo After Eligibility Ruling

Nigeria’s senior men’s national team, the Super Eagles, have been handed a decisive 3–0 victory by FIFA following a disciplinary ruling over player eligibility in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against DR Congo national football team.

The decision came after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the fixture, which had originally ended 2–1 in favour of DR Congo. The result had dealt a major blow to Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee ruled in favour of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), confirming that DR Congo fielded a player who had not completed the required nationality switch documentation prior to participating in the crucial qualifier.

As a result, FIFA overturned the match outcome and awarded Nigeria a 3–0 win in line with its regulations on player eligibility. The ruling significantly boosts the Super Eagles’ standing in the qualification race and revives their chances of securing a ticket to the global tournament.

The verdict has sparked widespread reactions across social media and within football communities, with many Nigerian supporters describing the outcome as “justice served” and a dramatic turning point in the country’s World Cup campaign.

With the updated result now officially recorded, attention shifts to Nigeria’s remaining fixtures as the Super Eagles continue their pursuit of qualification for football’s biggest stage.
