Fintiri Urges New Monarchs to Lead with Integrity, Announces Coronation Dates

By Matthew Eloyi

Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has called on the newly appointed traditional rulers of the state’s recently established Emirates and Chiefdoms to prioritise integrity, fairness, and accountability in their leadership.

According to a press statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Digital Communications, Domiya Ijafiya, and made available to OurNigeria News, the governor made this charge during a meeting with the monarchs at the Government House in Yola, marking his first official interaction with them since their appointment.

Addressing the monarchs, Governor Fintiri stressed the importance of avoiding tribal and religious biases in their domains, emphasising their responsibility to serve inclusively. “Your primary duty is to serve the people diligently and inclusively,” the governor said.

He further urged the rulers to familiarise themselves with their territories and traditional systems, while adhering to established guidelines for appointing titleholders. “Appointments should follow proper guidelines and include thorough security checks to avoid empowering individuals of questionable character,” Fintiri warned.

The governor highlighted the vital role of traditional rulers in bridging governance gaps and improving security. He encouraged them to work closely with district and village heads, ensuring transparency and accountability in their leadership. He also called for prompt reporting of any suspicious activities to relevant authorities.

Fintiri took the opportunity to underline his administration’s environmental initiatives, urging the enforcement of regulations against indiscriminate tree felling. “Deforestation has devastating consequences. We are promoting alternative energy sources like charcoal briquettes and have planted one million economic trees to mitigate the impact,” he said.

The governor announced the coronation dates for the new monarchs as follows:

– Emir of Fufore: February 5, 2025

– Gubo Yungur: February 6, 2025

– Kumu of Gombi: February 8, 2025

– Emir of Maiha: February 13, 2025

– Tol Huba of Hong: February 14, 2025

– Ptil Madagali: February 19, 2025

– Mbege Ka Michika: February 20, 2025

In his response, the Ptil of Madagali, HRH Dr. Ali Danburam, speaking on behalf of the new monarchs, expressed gratitude to the governor for creating the Emirates and Chiefdoms. “We pledge to lead with honesty, dedication, transparency, and fairness, supporting the government in delivering good governance,” he said.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta; Secretary to the State Government Barr. Awwal D. Tukur; and Chief of Staff Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday. Traditional rulers present included HRH Dr. Ali Danburam (Ptil Madagali), HRH Alhaji Sani Ahmadu Ribadu (Emir of Fufore), HRH Barr. Alheri B. Nyako (Tol Huba), and HRH Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga (Mbege Ka Michika), among others.

Governor Fintiri reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening traditional institutions, ensuring they contribute meaningfully to peace, security, and sustainable development in Adamawa State.
